Why Obama Should Choose Colin Powell for VP

Just a fun little thought experiment. If I were Barack Obama, who would I choose for the vice presidency? My answer…Colin Powell.

Obama is considered weak on foreign policy, Powell solves that.

He has said he wants to be the first “post-partisan” president, choosing a Republican would send a powerful message.

Although no one likes to mention it out loud, there exists an acute fear for Obama’s safety as reflected in the fact that he received protection so early and the fury over comments by Hillary Clinton and Mike Huckabee. Nominating a fellow African American would be historic, it would also serve to buffer Obama against harm.

I wouldn’t vote for Obama regardless, but put on your political science hats and tell me what you think of this idea, and tell me who you think would be Obama’s best pick. We’ll do the same with McCain in a couple of days.
