Ron Paul Takes on Chris Matthews

Chris Matthews is the ultimate defender of the establishment. Sure he impulsively defend the Democrats, but even more so he defends the government against the people - repeatedly demonstrating that he thinks that the few politicians that take their oath to the Constitution to heart are somehow not being serious.

That makes this clip with Doctor Paul all the more interesting:

    It’s very simple what Dr.Paul is saying. We should be free unless it interferes with another citizen’s unalienable rights. The “society” thats paying for people that are possibly careless are not the whole society, but a certain group of individuals that were not careless. Not saying that everyone is careless because there are some that are dependent in a just and moral way, but “society” should not be forced to pay for some who are in the position they are because of moral decisions they made. For example, American citizens should not have to pay their tax money to bail out corporations that made a mistake. How and when will we learn from our mistakes if we have no consequences. The idea stated previously is a semi-socialists ideal.

    My Dear Americans,

    On this the first day of 2011 I ask that you all take a very somber look at America’s past transgressions and devote yourselves individually, and collectively, to change yourselves and the direction of your country. To say that ‘America is a brutal, imperialist country which supports immorally acting corporations’ and’ America is the country most responsible for worldwide ecological disasters’ are no longer statements by a few, but are now thoughts on the minds of most of you. Inspite of all the misinformation, especially by the fossil fuel industry, to ‘cloud’ your thinking most of you are now AWAKE to the horrible truths of the possible economic and ecological collapse of your society. Your founding father, Thomas Jefferson warned you:

    “I believe that the banking systems are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations which will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people.”

    Look too at your individual and collective American ‘character’. In the past 200 years you have turned out to be almost ungovernably licentious just as the early Federalists like Washington and Adams feared . AND, as early Republicans like Jefferson feared, America has become the most capital and market minded nation on earth, a raw frenzy of commercialism. You have clearly dishonored your founding fathers and mothers and America’s noble beginnings.
    My dear Americans, everything must change and change quickly if you are to survive the coming chaos which you have either personally created , or by indifference or inactivity ….allowed.
    Yet, there have some brave heroes this year to inspire you…..the Veterans for Peace who after serving in the military ‘changed’ their direction to now work to end America’s military presence in Iraq and Afghanistan, Julian Assange and the whistleblowers who are exposing immoral behavior wherever they find it, great authors and journalists like John Perkins, Chris Hedges, Bill McKibben who fearlessly report the unpleasant facts about your situation, and the many righteous Americans who stepped forward to serve their community and ran for public office (most of them defeated by unkind and brutal smears by corporate money) .
    I know you say you want Peace, but it is only personal peace you desire….’leave me alone, I do not want to know these things…let me just be.’ You do not really care about others…or do you?
    My dear Americans, you can no longer stand by and allow this current reality to continue. It is time for swift and decisive changes. Just as America retooled her factories to fight the Nazis and their allies in WWII you must in the same swiftness retool your industries to save your planet. That means all money now spent on military funding, which now is half the federal budget, must be converted to use for alternative energy products, massive civic efforts to clean up the industrial pollution and housing projects for the homeless (which the immoral federal reserve system consciously created).
    Furthermore, the capture of the federal budget by the military/industrial complex has crippled your nation economically, but more importantly morally. Remember what your President Eisenhower said in 1953?:

    “ Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children…This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron.”

    Also, your mono crop agriculture and mono crop forestry must be reversed back to a permaculture/diversity model free of pesticides and fertilizers which now pollute your soil and water.
    Your young people in the military should be bought home and out of harms way.
    To stop disaster, my dear Americans, you must demand these changes of your government representatives. I do not care if they have all been given millions of dollars in bribes, it is the moral responsibility of each and every one to vote for the common good of The People. Demand it of them….or recall them! Your current federal representatives have allowed all these atrocities to occur. You can not wait two more years to replace them…..these things must occur this year 2011
    Revolution is coming. Let it come…it must come! Revolution is about change. This coming Revolution can be bloodless……but everyone, including those who have been pulling the puppet strings of your politicians must ‘change’ like the brave men and women who left the military to join Veterans for Peace to protest war. To change oneself and to say, ‘ I was wrong, I am sorry and now I want to be different’ takes personal courage. Can you use less fossil fuel products, can you stop producing products like drugs and food additives which are unhealthy? Can you stop raping and polluting the earth? Can you live with less? Of course, you can; but, you will have to give up your love of money and profits, your lifestyles to do so.
    I am Liberty….beloved because I represent the ideals expressed in the Declaration of Independence., the book which I carry. This document written by Thomas Jefferson was to ‘enlighten the world’.

    I am also beloved because I represent a mother, Mother Liberty….strong protector of all the children….whatever their age. I am not loved only by Americans but by people all over the world because I am looked upon as Goddess Mother for the entire world.
    I , therefore, as Mother expect great changes from all my children……love yourselves again, forgive yourselves and love each other.
    There is nothing to fear for each and every one of you are ‘endowed’/gifted with LIFE by God and no one can take that gift from you….only your thoughts of ‘death’ can betray you. Remember, God always gives you your thoughts. What you ‘think’ does MATTER!
    My beloved children of the world, .have focused thoughts of love, peace, health, abundance and evolution for all the people of the world. May you make 2011 the Year of Great CHANGE ….individually and collectively . Change and become noble, righteous, divine, holy -

    1. The dangerous thing about Ron Paul is his image as the odd congressman who is actually trustworthy, as the honest man who says exactly what he thinks &c which is as far as I’m concerned an image that’s entirely true. This is dangerous because it makes you accept everything he says to be factual. However contrary to what Dr. Paul claims in this interview Social Security in the United States is not broke, it pays for itself through Payroll Deductions which are not even progressive and in fact have a cap for the “hard-working” and the “talented”. If you wish to call these Deductions a Tax because they’re mandatory and enforced by government go ahead and do so; just remember the countless expenditures in the private sector that are mandatory and enforced under the pain of death (like food and gas) or only partially voluntary (like home heating and cellphone bills). In short even Ron Paul can spread misinformation check for yourself to see what the fiscal situation of Social Security is.

    2. When Dr. Paul says:”…if they’re stupid.. we can’t protect people against themselves.” To refute this logic It should be enough to quote Bertrand Russell who says: “Those who realize the importance of Liberty will be slow to judge and swift to sympathize.” But I can expand this idea and explain it this context if you’re not willing to read it in its original context in Russell’s Political Ideals available online.

    3. But the most important point that Dr. Paul makes and that I agree with is when he says: “You use the word Society rather carelessly. Society is everybody but only a few people in congress get to decide who society is, who pays, who gets bailed out and who doesn’t” I’d add unfortunately those few people in Congress are puppets in the hands of capitalists, but even if they weren’t I wouldn’t trust them with decision making on behalf of everyone. That’s why a truly free society is one that respects its minorities, not only racial and geographical, but also trade and professional groups (which are all minorities) and what I’d refer to as lifestyle groups to avoid using “consumer” (like drivers, cyclists, art lovers, aficionados…) and ultimately the smallest minority, the individual.
    In a system such as ours that doesn’t legally recognize these groups I sound like I’m endorsing lobbyists and special interest groups, quite the opposite, I’m calling for the end of lobbying. I am in fact demanding the upgrade of government from the fraudulent representative democracy that we have in place now that favors the rich over the poor the educated over the laymen the elite over the masses, into a real participatory democracy that legally not only recognizes these minorities and not only gives them legislative powers but also executive powers over their concerns, and where the central government acts as an arbitrary all the time and as an executive on a very limited basis. The limitation of government is certainly something I agree on. I just view with suspicion the idea of an individualist society with a laissez-faire attitude toward economy.

    4. To be fair to Keynes his recommendations were only implemented by Western Democracies for a short period of time following World War II among other things they included pegging currencies to gold to avoid destructive competition among industrialized nations devaluing money to gain trade surplus, and they only lasted until the early 70s when financial deregulation, corporate tax cuts and personal income tax cuts for the super-rich kicked in and were later accelerated under Reagen-Thatcher. This short period following the war is incidentally referred to as the Boom Years.
